WHAT IS MATCHA?
Matcha literally means "powdered tea." When you order traditional green tea, components from the leaves get infused into hot water and then the leaves are discarded. Brewing matcha consists of whisking the shade-grown powdered leaves in hot water, rather than simply steeping. Thus, the entire leaf is consumed, carrying with it a unique and sophisticated taste as well as amazing nutritional benefits.

This ancient Japanese drink has over 100 times the antioxidants of a regular brewed green tea and is naturally one of the most antioxidant-dense foods in our planet. These antioxidants lower inflammation, fight cancer, lower cholesterol, reduce stress, and boost energy. Matcha also contains amino acids such as L-theanine, focusing and calming the brain without a drowsy side effect.
Founder Geraldine Ridaura was inspired to open Holy Matcha after traveling to Japan and discovering the vibrant green tea. The fact that she can't drink coffee only fueled her excitement to have found such a healthy and delicious replacement. In awe and amazement of all the benefits of matcha, in 2016 Geraldine set forth on a journey
to introduce it to her community by opening San Diego's first matcha cafe.
